Hunger and the human body
You don't have to have a bloated belly or look hungry to be malnourished. All it takes is missing out on the key nutrition that stabilizes and keeps the human body healthy. Most people suffering hunger don't look hungry but their is a silent battle going on inside them. When a person is not properly nourished, their body system doesn't function properly.
Brain
Healthy brain- A healthy brain uses 20 percent of your bodies energy (energy= food)
Hungry brain- Hunger starves the brain unnourished kids can't think properly so they fall behind in school or drop out because they can't think( or because they have to help to put food on the table).
Heart
Healthy heart- pumps a steady supply of blood through out the entire body.
Hungry heart- A hungry heart literally shrinks. So the heart needs to work a lot harder to pump blood, which your body can't make enough of when your hungry.
Skin And Bones
Healthy Skin and Bones- Healthy Skin shields the body from infections. Healthy bones grow bigger and stronger while a child grows up.
Hungry Skin and Bones- Skin cracks becoming a gateway for infections. Bones stop growing if not fed the proper nutrition. Hungry kids are usually smaller because there biomes have not fully grown and developed.
Malnutrition
Malnutrition and Starvation whats the difference?
Malnutrition- When you don't get enough nutrition. It makes your body more likely to get infections and diseases. The effects build up over a long period of time.
Starvation- extreme, rapid results of severe hunger. If not stopped it ends up being permanent damage or even death.
Education
Imagine starting off every day being hungry. Unable to focus on what your teacher is saying being you have a empty stomach. Your head is pounding and your stomach is growling. Unfortunately for too many children this is reality. When a child is hungry it is hard for them to focus and learn. 1 million children across Canada thats one in six kids suffer hunger each year.

My stomach is and empty pit
hard and well-lined with the stories
of a thousand nights of hunger games
where you play to eat and sleep
you lose and die, shuddering
as your organs fail
one by one by two by two
Im wishing for that turkey dinner
the crackers and cheese
the milk, water and juice
that sits untouched on grocery store shelves
too expensive for me to buy
and fill my body with
